Plum - Black Diamond (Prunus domestica)

Tree: The plum (Prunus domestica) is a deciduous fruit tree with considerable growth up to 8m. It is an extremely cold-resistant tree. The bark of the trunk of the tree when it is young has a reddish color, with a little fluff, but as it grows, it turns brown and wrinkles. The leaves show differences in size, with a deep green, light green and reddish color. The leaves are toothed, with a smooth surface or rough downy. It blooms in spring, with all-white flowers and bears fruit from early summer to early autumn.

A characteristic feature of the plum tree is its longevity and long production period. And indeed the plum tree lives more than 40 years, while it begins to yield satisfactorily from the 5th year onwards. Until it reaches 15 years, the yield in plums increases year by year, from 16 to 25 the fruiting remains consistently high, while after that the yield gradually decreases, without however becoming economically unprofitable.

Plum grows in a variety of soil types but thrives in light to medium calcareous soils that drain well.

Fruits: The plum fruit depending on the variety has a different size, shape and color, which can be yellow, purple or deep red. Its fruit is sweet or slightly sour, somewhat astringent with or without aroma. The pit of the plum is wide and the seed bitter.

The fruit of the Black Diamond variety is large, round, dark purple in color with yellow spots. The flesh of the fruit is dark orange, hard. Its fruits ripen at the end of July.
